Novomoskovsk Historical and art Museum

The Historical and Art Museum of the Novomoskovsk's city began its activity on May 8, 1966. There are several sections of the exhibition on the two floors of the building. During the existence of the museum, a large collection of paintings, graphic works, sculptures by Novomoskovsk artists and several thousand pieces of historical material on the construction of the city and industrial enterprises were collected. They form the major part of the collection. In 1999 the branch of the museum was opened – archaeological museum (16 Komsomolskaya St.). The need for its opening has been discussed for a long time: archaeological excavations have been conducted in our and neighboring regions for more than 10 years and now most of the interesting discoveries are in the permanent exposition of the branch. The hall«about the past of the region. The hall is divided into three small rooms. In the first one you can get acquainted with the showcases: "Mineral lands of the region", "Our region in the prehistoric era". In the 2nd and 3rd rooms there is a large material stuff giving a true picture of the pre-revolutionary life of our region. Visitors can clearly see the interior of a life-sized peasant hut of the 19th century, many objects of everyday life: a loom, a stove, a coffer, bobbins, an oven fork, mahotki - the meaning of words that we do not understand very well, the museum employee explains in the excursion. Next there is an exposition telling about other classes of the XIX century - the nobility and burghers with the help of everyday life objects, works of art, photographic materials. The hall "Bobrikov construction. 1930s» The exposition tells in detail about the defense of the city by the 239th rifle division, the Stalinogorsk's fighter battalion, and the 172nd rifle division, also about everything that our compatriots had to endure during the 18 days of the fascist occupation in November-December 1941. At the stand, where photos of the Soviet Union Heroes are placed, courage lessons with schoolchildren students of the city's educational institutions take place. The division of Katyusha rocket launchers participated in the battles for our city. During the redeployment on the ice of the Shatsky reservoir it was intensively shelling. One Katyusha launcher sank. On November 25, 1988, a group of enthusiasts lifted the BM-13 Katyusha from the bottom of the reservoir.
