The village of Krapivna in the Tula region is a former county town with a rich history, which has preserved the typical appearance of a Russian provincial town at the end of the nineteenth century, which for all the years of its history has practically not gone beyond the boundaries of the Catherine plan and is a compact historical settlement, which is a monument of urban art. The life and work of the great writer Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy are closely connected with the Krapiven district.
The village of Krapivna is promising in terms of tourism development. There is a museum here in the ancient merchant mansion of the Saburovs, where you can see the life of various classes, ancient maps and unique photographs. The museum, as well as other objects on display in Krapivna village, where dozens of historical buildings have been preserved, are included in the tourist routes.
The tourist brand of the village is nettle, six crossed branches of which were depicted on the coat of arms of the city and county, approved by Catherine the Great in 1777. As part of the development of gastronomic tourism, nettle cooking has entered the gastronomic map of the Tula region and is positioned as a unique gastronomic brand. Since 2002, the International Nettle Festival has been held in the village of Krapivna in the first month of summer, which is gaining popularity every year and attracts an increasing number of tourists. During the festival, the central square of Krapivna turns into a fairground, with much attention being paid to locally produced goods.
Large-scale work is currently underway in Krapivna as part of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Tula Kremlin as the beginning of the creation of the Great Zasechnaya Line, and new tourist attractions will appear here next year. The comprehensive landscaping of the tourist center is planned to be complemented by a thematic art object. On June 16, 2020, an open creative competition was announced for the development of the art object "Krapivna" with subsequent installation at the entrance to Krapivna village, near the tourist information center. Everyone can take part in the competition. To participate in the Competition, it is necessary to prepare a draft design of the future art object with a description of the idea, the materials used and the approximate technology of fastening the elements.
