The parish numbered more than 1,500 people who lived in 6 villages near the Upa River, i.e. Yepifanovka, Khmelevoye, Lepilovka, Golovinskaya, Bezlepkina and Zhemchuzhnikovo.
The Church building is a two-story building in the classical style, topped by a dome and connected to the bell tower by a small passage.
The Church was founded in 1820 using the money of two landowners, Kolychev and Likharev, on the site of the abolished old Church. 12 years later it was consecrated in the name of St. Ilya the Prophet.
In 1848, a stone bell tower was built at the expense of S. Volkonsky, and in 1857, the upper chapel of the Church in the name of the Holy Martyr Nadezhda was opened.
In the 30s of the XX century, the temple, like many others, was closed and its premises were transferred to the local sovkhoz "Zhemchuzhina."
For more than 50 years, the temple building was used as a dining room.
On June 27, 2013, the entrepreneur Maksim Vladimirovich Belousov received the blessing of the Belyovo and Aleksin diocese for the restoration of St. Ilya's Church. On July 11, a meeting of village residents was held, a parish was organized, and a security obligation was received from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Tula Region.
