Shchekinsky Museum of Local Lore

In 1968, thanks to the efforts of enthusiasts, a museum of local lore was opened in Shchekino. Over the years of its existence, it has grown into a large scientific institution, the funds of which contain more than 7,000 exhibits that are living witnesses to the history of the region. Since 1997, the museum's specificity has been determined by its artistic and local history profile and, in terms of its importance, the institution is the socio-cultural center of the city. In 2011, the museum acquired the status of a municipal autonomous cultural institution.

The Shchekino Museum of Local Lore covers the history of the region from antiquity to the present. The exhibitions include rare finds of paleontology, artifacts from the period of mine development, telling about the founder of the local coal and chemical industry. Separate sections are dedicated to famous residents: traveler Dorin Romanov, hero cosmonaut Sergei Zaletin, musician Igor Talkov. The War Room tells about the contribution of residents to the Great Patriotic War and the conflicts of the 20th century. The interior of a peasant hut recreates the everyday life of the past, and the exhibition halls regularly host exhibitions of works by contemporary artists.
