Catherine the Great played a major role in the formation of the city of Bogoroditsk. First, she allocated the city from the Stable Department to her property and then gave it as a gift to her illegitimate son Alexei Sitsky, better known as count Bobrinsky. One of the most beautiful manors in the Tula Region does bear the name of his family! On 29 August 2015, the opening ceremony of the monument to Catherine II took place in the Central Avenue of Bogoroditsk. The height of the monument is more than two meters; the weight of the statue, together with the granite pedestal, reaches 10 tons. The author of the monument was a resident of Togliatti, a sculptor Dmitry Vlasov.
