Catherine the Great played a major role in the development of the city of Bogoroditsk of Tula Oblast. She initially assigned it to her own property from the Stables department and then donated it to her illegitimate son, Aleksey Sitskoy, better known as Count Bobrinsky. It is him that one of the most beautiful estates in the Tula region was named after.
On August 29, 2015, the opening ceremony of the monument of Catherine II was held at Central Alley of Bogoroditsk.
The height of the monument is more than two meters; the weight of the sculptures together with the granite pedestal reaches 10 tons. The author of the monument was a native of Tolyatti, Dmitriy Vlasov; and the factory «Resurs» charged itself with performing works, which celebrates the 50th anniversary this year.
