Mass grave No. 6
Mass grave No. 6
Arsenyevsky Krai is a unique natural monument from the time of the Great Patriotic War. One of the sections of the legendary Orel-Kursk arc passed through the territory of the district. And the fighting, unlike in all other districts of the region, lasted for a year and a half. That's why there are more than 20 mass graves in the district. And in the largest one, in the village of Khlopovo, more than two thousand people are buried. A sculptural monument made of reinforced concrete has been erected – a woman with a wreath and a child and a soldier with a lowered banner without a headdress and kneeling. At the base of the monument are memorial plaques with the names of those buried. There is a cast-iron fence around the burial site. There are green spaces.

Potatoes were an integral part of the history of Tula's daily life during the war and post-war years. The city executive committee allocated plots for potato planting to residents of the city, which were located, for example, on the territory of the current Central Park named after P.P. Belousov, adjacent to Tulsky Rabochy Polk Street.
So the monument is necessary and fair: it reminds us that it was potatoes that saved millions of people from hunger throughout the country and in the rear during the Great Patriotic War and during the years of post-war devastation.
The artistic solution of the monument is concise, but very convincing: two potatoes lying on a shell box.
