Guided tour of the Tula Museum of Fine Arts. The Romanovs exhibition is the jewel of the Tula Museum of Fine Arts. During the 300 years of the Romanovs' rule, the country went from a nearly independent state on the outskirts of Europe to one of the world's largest empires. The exhibition provides a unique opportunity to see the relics of the House of Romanov and rare historical monuments, introducing the private life and state activities of representatives of the royal family against the background of significant events in the history of Russia XVII – early XX century. The exhibition shows unique exhibits: autographs of Russian monarchs, masterpieces of fine and decorative arts, illustrating events from the life of Russian monarchs and glorifying the victories of Russia, personal belongings, uniforms of the Emperors. Guests will enjoy a guided tour of the hall and the fascinating history of an artifact associated with Tula and one of the members of the Imperial Dynasty.
Sightseeing walking tour of New Year's Tula. Getting to know the Romanov dynasty through the history of Tula is the main purpose of a sightseeing tour of the city center. Every city block and every house in the heart of the Armory Capital holds stories related to the August family name. And these stories will be revealed to the guests of the Imperial Route.
Holy Dormition Cathedral (15 minutes). Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich Romanov was an extremely educated man and was an example of the highest piety. So, in the middle of the 17th century, by his decree, the "Monastery of the Virgin Assumption of the Most Pure Theotokos" was founded in the center of the City of Masters. The nuns of the Assumption Monastery were famous for their gold embroidery work. The sisters presented one of the elaborately embroidered icons to Emperor Alexander III, in honor of the miraculous rescue of the imperial family after the train wreck in 1888. Unfortunately, the monastery did not survive the Soviet era, but among all the buildings of the monastery, the Assumption Cathedral with a copy of the church painting of St. Vladimir's Cathedral in Kiev has been preserved. These frescoes in Tula were recreated by the students of the brilliant artist Viktor Vasnetsov.
Tula Kremlin (30 minutes). The Assumption Cathedral of the Tula Kremlin is one of the main attractions of the Tula Fortress. Above the main entrance is the Russian coat of arms made of solid white stone – the double-headed royal eagle. The visits of Sovereigns Nicholas I, Alexander II and other representatives of the imperial family to Tula began with participation in divine services at the Assumption Cathedral. Within its walls, in January 1826, on the way from Taganrog to St. Petersburg, there was a hearse with the body of Emperor Alexander I.
Museum quarter on Metallistov Street (25 minutes). Thanks to the policy of the Romanov dynasty, merchants, since the time of the reforms of Tsar Peter I, are beginning to get rich thanks to Russia, and Russia is beginning to get rich thanks to merchants and industrialists. Already at the end of the XVIII century, beautiful merchant streets with ornate stone houses began to appear in the cities. These urban estates are built by the most successful merchants at their own expense. One of these streets in Tula is Metallistov Street, which was renovated in 2018, and our guests will walk along it.
Monument to S.I. Mosin. On April 28, 1891, Emperor Alexander III approved the Mosin rifle as the main weapon of the Russian Imperial Army. This event marked the birth of the modern arms industry in Russia. The arms industry of the Russian Empire has received a large order for the manufacture of modern small arms of a domestic standard. And this happened for the first time in Russian history. This branch of the military industry began to develop precisely with the Mosin rifle. During the sightseeing tour, guests will visit the monument to S.I. Mosin, the creator of the legendary weapon.
Monument to Emperor Peter I. The monument was unveiled on April 28, 1912, on the day of the 200th anniversary of the Imperial Arms Factory in Tula. The workers voluntarily commissioned the monument with their own money as a sign of gratitude to Emperor Peter the Great for the fact that in 1712 His Imperial Majesty ordered the construction of a state factory for the production of weapons in Tula. This monument is one of the few surviving sculptures of Russian emperors that survived during the Soviet era, which once again proves the people's love for Emperor Peter I.
Demidov Historical and Memorial Museum (30 minutes) The development of Russia in the late 17th and early 18th centuries was largely due to Tsar Peter Alekseevich's ability to find real nuggets among the inhabitants of Russia. Nikita Antyufeev, a small industrialist, was one of these nuggets. Thanks to Emperor Peter I, this artisan turned into Nikita Demidov, the king of metallurgy, and Russia received a powerful industry and a noble family that gave the Fatherland wonderful merchants, diplomats, lawyers, travelers, and industry. The museum's exposition is dedicated to the selfless service of the Demidovs for the benefit of Russia and the glory of the Romanov dynasty.
Demidov's tomb in Nikolo-Zaretskaya Church (15 minutes). The Demidov family, by the will of Emperor Peter I, became a dynasty of industrialists who served Russia for three centuries. In the city where the history of remarkable Russian industrialists began, the Demidovs built the Nikolo-Zaretskaya Church, in the necropolis of which the brightest representatives of this family rest.
Lunch at a cafe in the city.
The Museum of Weapons. One of the oldest museums in Russia. The origin of his collection dates back to 1724, when the Tula Arms Factory, in accordance with a decree issued by Emperor Peter I, began "... not to pour or spoil antique guns and fusees, but to deposit them as curiosities in warehouses." In 1775, Empress Catherine II, who visited the factory, found the collection worthy of creating a Chamber of Rare and exemplary Weapons on its basis. The modern museum building has a unique architectural form of a heroic helmet of an ancient Russian warrior. Thanks to the initiatives of representatives of the Romanov family, the Tula State Museum of Arms pleases its guests with amazing specimens of ancient and modern weapons. The tour, prepared especially for the Imperial route, will show the connection of the Romanov dynasty with the brightest exhibits of the museum.
