From the stories of the older generation, one might get the impression that Tula is a city where everyone lives in gingerbread houses, from the windows of which steam runs from the pipes of polished samovars, and accordion players play in the courtyards. To understand the metamorphoses that have taken place in Tula over the past few years, you just need to come to it, walk along the renovated streets, and, having parted from the cozy zone of stereotypes, look at the "armory capital" from the other side: modern museums, local cuisine with its own character, cultural and creative-industrial clusters, completely gone the beautiful embankment and the incredible atmosphere of Belousovsky Park. Believe me, the hero city has something to surprise, although, of course, it won't do without gingerbread and samovars. It is important that Tula different.

Epiphany
Epiphany is an ancient settlement. It was founded as a wooden fortress in 1566 or 1567 (according to other sources in 1578) by Prince Ivan Mstislavsky, the cousin of Ivan the Terrible. On the territory of the fortress there were a high watchtower, a terem, as well as several temples on the posad. Epiphany was intended for the defense of the space between the two sections of the Great Zasechnaya Line and became one of the strongholds against the Crimean-Nogai raids on Russia. By the middle of the 19th century, Epiphany was becoming an important trading center, and the annual Epiphany Fair, held in August, gathers merchants and rare goods from all over the empire. After the revolution, the city lost its status as a lively commercial city, but it retained its historical surroundings. Now it is a cozy small village, where museums have opened, beautiful merchant houses have been preserved, a majestic cathedral is unusual for such a small place, but, most importantly, Epiphany preserves the very atmosphere that we can feel when reading the works of classics.
Museum of Merchant Life
The museum of merchant life is located in the estate of the merchant of the 2nd guild Anton Yevgrafovich Baibakov. This is an excellent museum, which tells about the cultural everyday life of merchants of the 19th century: what they ate, what they did, how they lived, were sad, had fun, celebrated and felt the world. The complex itself includes an apartment building with a living room, bedroom and study (built in 1913), a retail store with a basement, a utility yard, a vegetable garden and a sauna. Each element of the estate can be considered as an independent exposition, but nevertheless, together they most reveal to visitors the complex and incredibly interesting world of the burghers and merchants of old Russia with all their passions and secrets.
Museum of Matrona of Moscow
The relics of St. Matrona of Moscow are located in the Pokrovsky Women's Cathedral in Moscow, and her museum is located in the village of Sebino in the Kimovsky district of the Tula region. It was here that Matrona was born. The museum appeared in 2014, and now it is quite easy to get to it, there are enough signs along the way, and modern navigation tools immediately plot the route. But until recently, there wasn't even a normal road here. Now the museum is one of the most popular among pilgrims. A modest log cabin tells the story of a revered saint: about her life and deeds. The exposition preserves many objects and things that belonged to the old woman, there are wonderful natural views around the museum, the guides are friendly and always happy to tell about the life of the saint. We highly recommend the tour. It is noteworthy that the museum itself was created and continues to exist solely at the expense of philanthropists, so there is no price for a ticket in the museum, each visitor leaves the amount he wants.
Kulikovo Field Museum Complex
The museum complex of the Kulikovo Field Federal Museum-Reserve is not just a museum about the military prowess of the state and great military achievements, it is also an outstanding architectural form of the museum building itself, fused to the ground and looking like a mound overgrown with various grasses. Architect S. Gnedovsky and a team of co-authors managed to reflect the tragedy of long-ago events in it, created their own drama, inscribed the walls into the surrounding landscape, calculating the scenario of the exposition in such a way that every step in the museum affects the maximum emotional assessment of the visitor. The main dominant feature of the complex is the field itself, on which the battle took place. It is he who is greeted by the guest, ending his visit to the incredible exhibition on the observation deck. It is from here that the view opens onto the field where the events that largely determined the fate of the Russian state took place. In addition to the museum itself, the complex preserves the memory of the village of Mokhovoe, which now houses guest houses and the necessary infrastructure for recreation.
