Bogoroditsk is an ancient Russian city founded to protect the southern borders of the medieval Moscow state from enemies during the development of the Zasechnaya Line. Bogoroditsky Palace Museum and Park is a large palace complex in the territories that belonged to Empress Catherine II, which she transferred to her illegitimate son Alexei Grigoryevich Bobrinsky in 1765. Without such family ties, it is unlikely that such a palace would have appeared in a province far from St. Petersburg. The main building of the complex was built by architect Ivan Egorovich Starov in the early classicism style typical of the late 18th century. At various times, the building housed barracks, a folk theater, and the Krasny Shakhter sanatorium. During the Great Patriotic War, the palace was destroyed by the German invaders and stood in desolation for a long time. However, now, after the restoration, the palace and its territory have acquired their original appearance. The Palace Museum is a must-visit for both locals and tourists.
