The museum is located in Spasskoye village, Novomoskovsk district of Tula region. It is one of the few art museums in Russia, which are located in the countryside.
The museum houses a unique collection of paintings of XVIII-XIX centuries, collections of applied and folk art from the Tula regional Art Museum funds. There are unique works of XVIII – XX centuries, painted by V. Makovsky, N. N. Ge, I. I. Shishkin, A. K. Savrasov, P. P. Konchalovsky and by other famous artists. There is M. I. Avilov’s painting “The Choice of Location for the Battle", which is known worldwide, on permanent exhibition. Its reproductions are included in textbooks of history and literature. Currently it is being copied for the Panorama on the Kulikovo battlefield.
In the museum you can get acquainted with the exhibits of applied and decorative arts. There is a wide range of XIX – XX centuries porcelain, of stained glass and of folk art. Exhibitions of local artists and craftsmen are regularly held in the museum. It gives an opportunity to get acquainted with the folk art of Tula region. Besides, in this museum you can take part in a workshop on making souvenirs.
Museum festivals for children (“Winter's tale", "The Museum’s Birthday"), music classes for toddlers, organized with the participation of the children’s music school of Sokolniki and the Community center of Spasskoe village, have become a tradition
