Is the second most important city in the region after Tula worth visiting? This question will have to be answered by those who have already seen this place.
We, in turn, will tell you in this section why it is worth leaving the hotel if you have a business trip or where you can go with your relatives whom you've come to visit.
Is Novomoskovsk rich in tourist attractions?
The ancient “Cossack river” – the Don – and the less well-known river Schat originate in this area. Today they are separated, but the Ivan-Ozero used to be their common source over three hundred years ago. In 1702, Peter I ordered to build a canal here to connect the Don and the Volga. It was the first hydroengineering project of such a scale in Russia, but it was not entirely successful. Navigation opened only in spring during high water. The lake and rivers have shrunk due to construction errors. Then the roads and embankments separated the Ivan-Ozero and the Schat from the Don. Now the great Russian river originates in the park of the regional center. A memorial stone is installed at the source, a Novomoskovsk landmark.
Any child’s dream – the children’s railway – is located nearby. It is a narrow-gauge railway with a real locomotive, wagons, rails, stations, semaphores, and other integral elements of a real railway infrastructure. This is one of the main sights of Novomoskovsk and the best children’s railway in Russia. It is here, at the branch of the Russian Railways, that young railway workers are trained. Give your child a real holiday by visiting this place with them.
The railway and the source of the Don are located in the premises of another attraction of Novomoskovsk and Tula Region – the City Children’s Park. Spruce and birch trees shade tourists from the scorching sun, the zoo and attractions delight young visitors, and sports fans will easily find enough space here for jogging and other healthy activities. At one of the entrances to the park, there is the most beautiful monument of the city of Novomoskovsk – The Don and the Schat, represented by two boys on horseback. What a great spot for a photo!
In this section, you can get acquainted with other sights of the Novomoskovsk District: the mysterious Gremyachevo Caves, the unusual monument to Pushkin, the instructive Museum of Local Lore, and much more. Write down addresses, plan routes, and come visit!
