The Tula region is rich in its connection with the craft of writing. Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy lived here in his Yasnaya Polyana and Ivan Alekseyevich Bunin lived in Efremov. The great Vasily Andreyevich Zhukovsky was born near the ancient Belyov and Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev often visited his estate near Bezhin Meadow. We will not ignore the famous Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin, who managed to work in the state chamber of Tula Province. He gathered enough materials for his fairy tales here.
However, all this is near Tula! But almost in the very center of the Pryanik Capital, at the address: 82 Gogolevskaya (former Verkhne-Dvoryanskaya) Str., the famous writer Vikenty Vikentyevich Veresaev lived. The monument to him, which is located at the Northern entrance to Central Park of Culture and Recreation, looks just in the direction of the place where he was born and where he often came to visit.
The Veresaev Museum was opened in 1992. The exhibits stored in it are original. Vikenty Vikentyevich gave most of them to the Museum of Local Lore!
Of course, Veresayev lived on Gogolevskaya Street not permanently; the building was actually sold in 1912 and later nationalized. However, when one enters the Veresaev House Museum, it is not at all possible to say that there was once a communal apartment for a dozen families. The building was restored and the rooms are brought to the coziness of the home of the Smidovich dynasty (the real family name of the writer).
The Veresaev Museum, in addition to the rich history and household items of Vikenty Vikentyevich and his family, possesses absolutely amazing artifacts: the rarest death mask of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin and the works of Plato published in 1602! Where else can you see the same and take a picture?
The house of Veresaev in Tula is preserved as a monument to the talent of the Smidovich dynasty. Few people know that the writer's father was among the founders of the Tula City Hospital and his mother founded the first kindergarten.
The Veresaev Museum in Tula keeps even more interesting stories, so come and visit it! Take a picture and don't forget the address!
